Katherine Kovner
Artistic Director

Katherine can be occasionally glimpsed behind a towering stack of scripts. If not, chances are you’ll find her reading a great book. Katherine’s prodigious script-reading powers paid off when she came across Dov and Ali by Anna Ziegler, Substitution by Anton Dudley, and Crane Story by Jen Silverman, all of which she directed for the Realm. She is this year's recipient of the Lucile Lortel Award from the League of Professional Theater Women. Before founding The Realm, Katherine was the artistic associate at Classic Stage Company, a freelance director, and also assisted directors on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in the West End. Other directing credits include: Roxy Font by Liza Lentini for The New York Fringe Festival, which earned four stars from Time Out Magazine and won the Fringe’s Best Ensemble Award; Elliot: A Soldier's Fugue by Quiara Alegria Hudes at Luna Stage; Iphigenia and Other Daughters by Elllen McLaughlin, also at Luna Stage, and Lizardskin by Jen Silverman at The New York Fringe Festival. Katherine has developed work with New York Theater Workshop, Soho Rep, New Georges, New Dramatists, New York Stage and Film, Classic Stage Company and EST. In 2006, she was the directing fellow at The Public Theater's Shakespeare Lab and she was a member of The Soho Rep Writer Director Lab in 2008-2009. She is a member of the Lincoln Center's Directors Lab and an affiliated artist with New Georges. Katherine is a graduate of Brown University but her favorite color is red.

Roberta Pereira
Producing Director

Roberta Pereira grew up down the street from the beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but several years ago she exchanged balmy weather for the bright lights of New York City, before joining The Playwrights Realm, Roberta was at Bisno Productions where she developed and produced plays and musicals, including A Red Orchid Theater's Off-Broadway premiere of The Opponent by Brett Neveu; Tony-nominated play Mothers and Sons by Terrence McNally, starring Tyne Daly; the Olivier award-winning revival of Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along on the West End; and the Broadway premiere of Grace by Craig Wright, starring Paul Rudd, Michael Shannon, and Ed Asner. Previously, Roberta was an Associate Producer at Anne Bogart’s SITI Company, Executive Producer of Yale Summer Cabaret in New Haven and she produced all the auxiliary events for the 2006 Dublin International Theatre Festival. Roberta is also the Co-Founder and Managing Editor of Dress Circle Publishing, the premier publisher of theater-themed books. She is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Yale School of Drama’s Theater Management program.
